EcoStruxure Hybrid DCS[2018]: Error while starting Virtual Machine" Pes.Vm.4.4#0 on localhost or System.InvalidOperationException" for HDCS 2018

Goals and Symptoms       

The EcoStruxure Hybrid DCS 2018 System server doesn’t start and stuck at start virtual machine stage and after 10 minutes it throw error as “Error while starting Vm Pes.Vm.4.4#0 on localhost or System.InvalidOperationException”.

 
Facts and Changes

Investigation result is demonstrated that it’s related to updates applied in the windows Operating System which includes installation of the “Microsoft OneDrive” Patch/software in the host operating system. This software is holding the VM startup and never coming out of booting process.Because of this, VM startup is timed out after 10 minutes. This issue started occurring after recent windows updates in Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012 R2.

Causes and Fixes       

To solve the issue our recommendation is customer can upgrade Ecostruxure Hybrid DCS 2018 to Ecostruxure Hybrid DCS 2018- R2. This issue is not observed with Ecostruxure Hybrid DCS 2018-R2 as “Microsoft OneDrive” is already uninstalled from VM in this version. if the customer cannot upgrade for any reason then Contact to EcoStruxure Hybrid DCS Support - This email address is being protected from spambots.   • The layout of tree views is enhanced to optimize space management. 
  • You can now extract any pane to reposition it and retract panes to their previous docked position.
Performance and productivity improvements in the engineering of Supervision Participant projects:
  • The ‘Build’ command can be used to integrate a larger number of changes to a Supervision Participant project. 
  • During deployment from the executable or the station node, you can select to deploy only the master Supervision project or also OFS configuration files and/or included projects. 
  • The ‘Deploy Changes’ command is introduced to deploy certain supported changes incrementally. 
  • Enjoy significant time savings when you perform various operations, such as editing Supervision pages, building, and deploying Supervision projects or changes.
  • You can save changes made to a Supervision page while changes made to another page are being saved.
Update of software components for increased cybersecurity:
  • Schneider Electric license management and database management software.
Better management of the software configuration:
  • Extensions that are installed in the virtual machine are automatically backed up when you upgrade or remove the software.
Capability to virtualize Hybrid DCS:
  • Hybrid DCS 2018 R2 has been tested in a virtual environment implemented by using VMware ESXi, which is an enterprise class type-1 / bare metal hypervisor from VMWare. As such, ESXi is not a software application that is installed on an Operating System but installs directly on the physical hardware. After installation of ESXi, users can create virtual machines through the ESXi management console.
Extension of the Foundation Library with new templates:
  • New templates enable the management of time stamping for digital outputs and internal variables (Bool & EBool).
General Purpose Library (GPL): 
  • EcoStruxure Hybrid DCS 2018 R2 includes the General Purpose Library 2018 R3. 

Ecostruxure Hybrid DCS 2018 R2 is available for download from the support website for all registered users.

  • New hardware support, with associated topological and application templates for:
    • BMENOC0321 Ethernet communication module with IP forwarding.
    • Racks and Power supplies to get supply redundancy for M340 and M580 controllers.
    • PMX NOW0300 wireless communication module.
    • BMENOP0300 module to communicate with IEC61850 devices to combine Automation and electrical distribution in a single application in M580 architectures.
    • BMXETM0200H module for turbomachinery applications.
    • PMESWT0100 module for embedded weighing functionality in the controller.
  • Smooth transition of installed base to EcoStruxure Hybrid DCS:
    •  Modicon Quantum S908 drops.
    •  Premium I/O modules in Modicon M580 architectures. 
  • Implementation of Role Based Access Control (RBAC): Lets you manage the access rights of authorized users based on the tasks that they need to perform. Software activities are divided between four roles. 
  • Implementation of a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI): a self-signed root CA certificate and entity certificates on computers running EcoStruxure Hybrid DCS components secure client/server communication. 
  • Visual identification of code generated by Control facets assigned to Control participant projects:  Shows code generated by the software in a different color when you refine the logical Control Participant project. Helps you identify changes that were made during refinement. Also, the code is locked to help avoid unwanted changes. 
  • Management of device DDT variables in the logical Control Participant project: Lets you create D DDT variables corresponding to a dynamic profile of hardware in the logical project. 
  • Improvement management of documentation and URLs for runtime navigation services:
    • Templates include parameters that let you associate your own documents and URLs so that operators can open them from the operation client when using RTNS.
    • Customized navigation between object instances through links defined in the linking editor
    • Help files and technical documentation concerning object template is readily available from the operation during runtime.          
  • Embedded configuration of Wonderware InBatch: Lets you editing Supervision pages with Wonderware InBatch ActiveX controls in EcoStruxure Hybrid DCS environment.                                              
  • This release embeds the foundation library, which is enhanced with new templates to support the new hardware. 
    • $BMENOP: IEC61850 Communication Module (BMENOP0300)
    • $MPMXNOW0300: Wireless Module (PMXNOW0300)
    • $MBMXETM0200, $TCptFlmIn2, $BMXETM: Turbomachinery frequency module (BMXETM0200) 
    • Enhancement of existing templates to support new modules:140CRA31908, BMENOC0321, BMENOC0301.3, BMENOC0311.3, TSXDEY16FK, BMXCPS4002, BMXCPS4022, BMXCPS3522
  • This release embeds the General-Purpose Library, which includes the new following application templates: 
    • $EMPattern: To configure, control and monitor the equipment states & strategies for equipment module as per ISA NS88 standards
    • $PUMPSETPATTERN : To control up to 5 pumping assets to maintain the required number of pumping assets. A pump, an inlet valve, an outlet valve, and a drain valve are collectively referred to as a pumping asset. User can modify this template based on the application needs.
    • $FLOWCTLPATTERN : To control up to 5 pumping assets to maintain the flow Setpoint. A variable speed pump, an inlet valve, an outlet valve, and a drain valve are collectively referred to as a pumping asset. User can modify this template based on the application needs.
    • $CompactNSXMBU : Compact NSX circuit breaker supported on ULP port module which is connected to an Ethernet network with Modbus TCP/IP protocol.
    • $MasterpactMTZMBU / $MasterpactMTZCMBU : To control and monitor the Masterpact MTZ without / with chassis circuit breaker supported on ULP port module which is connected to an Ethernet network with Modbus TCP/IP protocol
    • $MasterpactNxMBU / $MasterpactNxCMBU : To control and monitor the Masterpact NT/ NW without / with chassis circuit breaker supported on ULP port module which is connected to an Ethernet network with Modbus TCP/IP protocol.
    • $CircuitBreakerHW: To support generic hardwired circuit breaker 
    • $CompactHW: To support hardwired Compact circuit breaker
    • $MasterpactHW: To support hardwired Masterpact circuit breaker

  • The object templates embed a set of services to be configured for each object instance to enable navigation in runtime:
